Arriving at Maui

What to do at the Port of Entry: Immigration

  • You should be aware that a visa does not guarantee admission into the United States. Immigration may deny your admission, and also limit the period of time you are authorized to remain in the United States.
  • The burden is on the visitor to explain to an Immigration officer the nature and purpose of the visit in order for the officer to determine “a period of time that is fair and reasonable for the completion of the purpose of the visit”
  • If the Immigration officer authorizes your admission to the United States at the designated port of entry, you will receive a stamped Form I-94, Record of Arrival-Departure
  • It is very important to inform the Immigration Officer that you are attending a seminar and that the length of the seminar is 25 days. The admission period on the amount of time needed to accomplish the purpose of the trip, in many cases, is 30 days.
  • Be ready to present your passport, ticket or itinerary to the Immigration officer.

Customs and luggage

  • When you enter the U.S. [Honolulu, Miami, Dallas, New York or any other USA city], remember you must pick up your checked-in luggage at your USA port of entry as it must accompany you through Customs (even if your luggage was tagged for to your final destination).
  • Once you have cleared Customs, make sure you do not place the lock(s) back on your luggage.  If you do replace your locks, they may be cut off by Security authorities. Within the U.S., it is reasonably safe to send your luggage unlocked.
  • Outside of the Customs area, your luggage will be rechecked for you for the remainder of your travel.

Honolulu (whether as your Port of Entry or as a stopover from Mainland USA)

  • Make your way from the Main or International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal (or Inter-Island Terminal for "Hawaiian" or other domestic airlines).  It is a short shuttle-bus ride or a brisk 15-minute walk.
  • You will catch your flight from there to Maui.
  • Make sure your luggage was checked-in all the way to Maui. (The codes to look for on your baggage claim ticket is OGG = Kahului/Maui).

Arriving in Maui (Kahului Airport)

  • When you arrive in Kahului (Maui), you will need to claim all your luggage.
  • A company called Speedi-Shuttle picks up our participants. Upon arrival, just look for their counter located directly across from Kahului Airport Baggage Claim #3Mention Haggai Institute and you will be assisted by their airport staff.
  • You will not have to pay or tip the driver but you must present the voucher, which is contained in our Final Letter.
