This year’s elections in Burundi are billed as a milestone on my country’s long road to sustainable peace.
For long we have lived in turmoil because of warring internal factions. Now we have reached the time to reckon. For us who have the incomparable power of God because we believe in Christ, we find before us a wonderful opportunity to share the Gospel with a hungry and hurting nation; to reveal that there is a way out of the hatred and strife.
It is now clear that it was the Lord Himself who had allotted the time I was to spend getting trained for this occasion at Haggai Institute. Every class and subject of the session has relevance to what we are encountering and what we need to do. I returned from H.I. a new person, changed in several ways. I turned away from denominational discrimination and began to focus on spiritual unity with all believers who are part of the Body of Christ. This unity is of significance in the face of the approaching elections.
Around a hundred alumni from Haggai Institute have got together and are strengthening the churches in every way we can. Two hours have been set aside every Tuesday evening to train leaders from all churches. We are using the H.I. program. In my own ministry of military chaplaincy, the program is breaking barriers and boundaries. I am currently focusing on bringing about reconciliation between military personnel and civilians, to end the deep hatred between the two groups that has sliced them apart for decades.
I am not too sure that I would have had this kind of Big Picture if it were not for the training at Haggai Institute. I may have thought about my church and my congregation. But at H.I. we got a glimpse of the father heart of God.
